The prelude in D DUr, L 22, starts with a long improvisatory-like introduction. Some passage are written out in broken chords, others passages are just long chord-sequences. It is not clear wether these chords should be played just like that, or that they are meant as a harmonic base for further improvisations. Listening to performances of other preludes of Seger with similar chord sequences shows that I am not the only one who has trouble making some sense of them Mostly they are played as just a sequence of chords. As I find that rather boring, I've tried to embellish them a bit. Not too much, as I am not good in improvisation. There are a lot more preludes like this in the manuscript I'm working from. so I'd better get proficient in dealing with these chord sequences.
