Clément Loret (1833-1909) is a Belgian organist and composer. After studying with Lemmens and graduating, he went to Paris. Here he was organist in several churches and also a renowned teacher at the Ecole Niedermeyer (Fauré and Gigout were among his pupils).
This Scherzo was published in 1898, inside a book of 12 Pièces. It's a delicate scherzo on flutes and strings, not a "noisy" scherzo with plenty of reeds alla Guilmant. There is a hint of melancholy in this music which is somewhat joyful and sad at the same time, a bit like Watteau's characters .
The only other post I could find of this scherzo is a 15 years old MIDI one, with registrations which remind strongly the late Jean Guillou's idiosyncrasies (and so interesting to explore, imho).
