| Description: | I think I must have been 17 or 18 when I first started writing this piece... I didn't get very far, as I had no idea how to write a fugue. Some years later (in my early/mid 20's?) after taking music theory and form and analysis, I was better equipped to finish it. I'd certainly do it differently now (more modulation, more development) but I think it pretty accurately captures the spirit of my compositional voice, even flawed as it is.
Odd connection - in a fit of teenage rebellion, I used to listen to rock and roll (my parents thought it was of the devil...). There was this Christian Rock and Roll band called "Petra", and they did this song called "Judas' Kiss". Very early on, I thought to myself "that opening guitar riff would make a great fugue subject if I tweaked it just a bit.....
Of course at that point I had no idea how to write a fugue. But, the idea persisted, and so it eventually became my first "official" work that I wanted to assign an opus to.
There is a Prelude, too... but I never fleshed it out, I may someday, though... it would be interesting. |
