Prelude and Fugue BWV 545 is one of J. S. Bach's great organ works. A virtuoso prelude in a powerful organ pleno sound with an impressive pedal part is contrasted with a somewhat academic fugue with a very simple theme in long note values. Comparable to the C major fugue from the 1st part of the well tempered clavier. The fugue builds up to its end through the moving counterpoint and represents a weighty counterpart to the stormy prelude.
