Description:
Gervais-François Couperin - Coriphé & Chœur final
Virtual organ after the Formentelli organ, Rieti

Discovery of unpublished manuscripts of the organ works of Gervais-François Couperin: Until now, the only known manuscripts of the organ works of Gervais-François Couperin were the autographs (currently in a private collection), first described in a 1919 article by Paul Brunold, a selection of 29 pieces were first published in 1997 by the late Nicolas Gorenstein. During my research in the collections of François-Joseph Fétis (Royal Library of Belgium) I found two manuscripts containing 16 of the published works of G.-F. Couperin, MS II 3926 Fétis 2167 "Offices des fêtes et Dimanches de l’annee", & MS II 3925 Fétis 2166 "Kirie et Gloria | tout entiers en Plain chant...". After an examination of the manuscripts, I observed that the majority of pieces have been copied by François-Louis Perne, and another unknown individual, and are most likely not autographs of G.F. Couperin. The published pieces, and the Suites they are found in, are bound in the same parts of the two manuscripts, most of the Suites are consistent with the list given in the Brunold article (Magnificats of the 1st, 2nd, 6th, and 7th Ton, various offices for the Jour de Saint-Pierre). Several other pieces have certain aspects that almost certainly unique to G.-F. Couperin. This is the case with this "Coriphé & Choeur Final", extracted from a Suite en Ut Mineur (preceded by a very interesting Fugue), according to N. Gorenstein, G.-F. Couperin wrote two Coriphé & Choeur, only one was published in 1997.
Up next: the G Minor Offertoire of G.-F. Couperin (manuscript version)

This recording was made on a virtual organ comparable to the largest organs of the post-classical period, the way I have adapted this work to this organ conforms to some of the (often rarely mentioned) practices of the time, the score video attached was recorded on a local Casavant, following the indications in the score more closely.
