Description:
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach 1714-1788
Fugue a 2 in D Minor Wq 119/2
Allegro di molto

Carl Philipp has left his father's organ style far behind him and writes here in his typical personal style, making extensive use of the diminished seventh chord.
Although the fugue is only in 2 parts, Carl Philipp shows all his skills here and writes a virtuoso fugue in the style of the Sturm und Drang. The bold theme with its daring rests alone makes the listener sit up and take notice right at the beginning. The magnificent 16' plenum on the Riepp organ provides both the right gravitas and the transparency.
