This simple set of variations is based on the the traditional Scottish song, often sung on New Year's Eve, Auld Lang Syne.
Following a short introduction, the first variation/theme is a simple setting of the theme played on the GPR 8' foundations. The second variation, an aria featuring the Récit Cornet accompanied by the 8' Bourdon on the Great, only hints at the theme. The motivic material heard in the first variation makes an appearance at the end played on the Positive Cromorne. The final variation is a gentle lullaby with a repeating pattern played on the Récit Voix Celeste with the theme heard on the 4' Prestant (coupled from the Positive) in the pedal. The theme is heard one final time, more freely adapted, on the Great Flûte Harmonique.
