0:00 Prelude, G 1:48 Choral prelude 'Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr'
Michael Gotthard Fischer (1773-1829) was a German composer and organist. He was a student of J.Ch. Kittel, one of Bach's most famous pupils. He worked as a musician at the Barfüßerkirche, later at the Predigerkirche Erfurt and taught organ and double bass at the local teacher training college. In addition to his numerous instrumental and vocal works, most of which have been forgotten, he has remained known as an organ composer, particularly for his small-format pieces of music. His Prelude in D and his chorale prelude “Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr'” appear to be musically related. Their solemn character suits the feast of Christ the King on the Sunday before Advent.
