Composer: Bach, J. S.
Sample Producer: Inspired Acoustics
Sample Set: Esztergom
Software: Hauptwerk VII
Genre: Baroque
Description:
Back in 2018, during a visit to a friend's Hauptwerk setup, I tried some pieces on the Esztergom sampleset and left thoroughly unimpressed, citing among else an exceedingly resonant acoustic which made any sort of fast playing (and even some moderately-paced pieces) completely impossible.

Fast forward to 2024, and having played the same sampleset on the same setup, I walked away completely in love with the EGOM sampleset, which I proceeded to buy a mere two days later, and now I have spent the past week playing this magnificent organ to my heart's delight.

How some things change...

Although it would surely not be most people's first (or even last) choice for Baroque repertoire, I decided to give it a go with these two chorale preludes by J. S. Bach, which express both in humble contentment and in terrible majesty the security of the faithful soul in Christ's world-changing power and His steadfast faithfulness manifest in the lives of His bondservants:

If thou but suffer God to guide thee,
And hope in Him through all thy ways,
He'll give thee strength whate'er betide thee,
And bear thee through the evil days.
Who trust in God's unchanging love
Builds on the rock that nought can move.

All are alike before the Highest.
'Tis easy to our God, we know,
To raise thee up though low thou liest,
To make the rich man poor and low;
True wonders still by Him are wrought
Who setteth up and brings to nought.

FYI, you are hearing the full set loaded in less than 16GB of RAM! Once I manage to optimise the quality and reverberation settings, I will give a go to BWV 565, which I have wanted to record for the longest time.

Happy listening, and kudos to Csaba Huszty and his team.
