| Description: | 1. Komt als kind´ren van het Licht [ 0:00]
2. Waarheen pelgrims [ 4:46]
3. De Heer is mijn herder [ 9:00]
This year marks forty years since Feike Asma died. I must admit that I am not one of the most frequent Asma interpreters, but a memorial year is a memorial year. Therefore, here is a selection from his earlier organ works, based on Dutch hymns.
The first (Come as children of light) is an arrangement of a Lutheran church song, written after Asma became organist at the Lutheran church in The Hague (1943), and was published in the collection "Vier Koraalmelodieën voor Orgel". The second song is a translation of 'Whither, pilgrims, are you going?', the third (The Lord is my shepherd) a song based on Psalm 23. Both of the latter were composed in the 1930s, when Asma was a student of Jan Zwart, and published in the collection "Vijf Melodiebewerkingen voor Orgel”. To the last arrangement I added a chorale harmonization in a matching idiom.
