I always record very classical pieces. This evening, as I had implied in some comments, I decided to surprise. Many will probably not like this very contemporary music composed in 1971 and created by the composer at the organ of Notre-Dame de Paris.
The french organist Francis Chapelet is well known, due to his work on ancient spanish music. Few people know that he is also a volcanologist of very high level (one of his best friend was Haroun Tazieff).
In this work he evokes the terrible eruption of Etna between April and May 1971.
He indicates a duration of approximately 9 minutes. The score gives precise indications on colors and durations or on the interpretation of clusters.
He writes in the preface to his work that it must be performed on an organ with 3 or 4 keyboards with combiner and located in very reverberant acoustics. The Regensburg Dom organ is the ideal instrument.
Two years ago I had the chance to meet him and discuss widely about his music and his knowledges on spanish music, improvisation and ... about this work. I hope here to be faithful to the spirit he wanted to give to this evocation.
I also hope that this work will bring a little diversity to this site..... contemporary music is also part of my universe and this is the first time that I express it in public.
