Thalben-Ball‘s Elegy was composed after an improvisation during a radio broadcast in World War II.

I decided to include this piece in my Advent calendar the day before Christmas Eve to remind all of us that there is also war in many countries in the world today, and to think of all the people who will not have a nice Christmas.
