Andreas Kneller (1649-1724) came from a family of artists. Both his older brothers Sir Godfrey Kneller and Johann Zacharias Kneller as well as his father Zacharias Kniller were painters. In 1667, Kneller was appointed to succeed the organist Melchior Schildt at the Marktkirche in Hanover. On December 1, 1685, at the suggestion of Johann Adam Reincken, he was chosen to succeed J. Schade as organist at St. Peter's Church in Hamburg. The following year he married Reincken's daughter Margaretha Maria. In 1723, he was pensionated in favour of his son-in-law Jakob Henke, who had already been acting organist there since 1717. Kneller died a year later at the age of 75.
