Description: | The second piece in the collection is "Fantasia on 'Wareham'" by Herbert Murrill (1909-1952). He was organ scholar of Worcester College, Oxford, and later served as Organist of several London churches. He was professor of composition at the Royal Academy of Music, and is best known to organists for his "Carillon" and "Evening Service in E Major."
This fantasia is a busy little piece, that features "2's against 3's" throughout. It starts on the Swell, using 8 & 4-foot stops, then adds the 2-foot and Oboe when the second section begins. The melody is heard on the Pedal Trombone, and a crescendo to "ff" happens in course. There is a "subito pp," played on the Choir, and the piece ends triumphantly on the Full Organ. |
