| Description: | Dale Wood was a renown composer, organist, and choral director best known for his church music compositions. He was born on February 13, 1934, in Glendale, California, and died April 13, 2003. Wood began writing compositions at a young age and when he was 13 years old, he won a national hymn-writing competition. He was greatly influenced by Richard Purvis’s style of composition and incorporated a similar tonal language into his own works. In addition to holding a number of organist-choirmaster positions, he also taught music at San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral School for Boys from 1973-1974. Dale Wood was also editor for The Sacred Music Press from 1975–1996.
“Pastorale” is one of the works in the collection “Lyric Pieces for Organ,” published by The Sacred Music Press.
For those modern ultra-romantic organ music fans, here is my playlist of eight works by composer, Robert Hebble, replete with ”$50 chords.”
