Jean-Nicolas Marrigues was organist of Saint Gervais from a few months after the death of G-F Couperin (Couperin's daughter, who temporarily held that position at the time was dismissed upon Marrigues being named organist) until his own death in 1834. His, for the time, unusual interest in the Fugue may have had some significant influence on his associate, A.P.F. Boëly, who would take over as organist of Saint-Gervais from 1834 to 1838.
