As many others composers of the serie, the abbot Redier de la Vilatte is clearly linked to south-west of France where this family name still worn today.
I discovered he was chaplain of the SIsters of St Joseph in Toulouse when in was murdered by a baker in november 1889.
He published some sacred songs and motets and some harmonium or organ works.
For a few issues, the scores have been engraved with a good number of errors that must be corrected by taking sometimes radical decisions.
His music is in keeping with the spirit of the time.I must say I was very surprised. He offers very ostentatious music in the style of Battmann or Lefébure-Wély, but he also delivers one of the most beautiful pages of the entire collection. Number 2 is (imho) an awesome meditation.
