Vexilla Regis

Healey Willan (1880-1968) was an Anglo-Canadian organist and composer. This is Willan's setting of Vexilla Regis.


Vexilla regis prodeunt:
Fulget crucis mysterium
Quo carne carnis conditor,
Suspensus est patibulo.

The Royal Banner forward goes,
The mystic Cross refulgent glows:
Where He, in Flesh, flesh who made,
Upon the Tree of pain is laid.


The instrument is a composite based on the stop list of Durham Cathedral. Samples are from a number of free organs and not the Durham organ.
