The nuns of Vitré in Brittany were musicaly trained, as show the four manuscripts discovered in 1973. Among 450 pieces, half were attributed to known composers. Some remain anonymous. A modern edition (very selectiv and with some faults) was published. I decided to record today the first mass for organ consisting in Kyrie and Gloria. It’s typical french organ music of the baroque period.
I conserv the writing of the manuscript :
Kyrie
1. Prélude du premier ton
2. Fugue
3. Duo
4. Cornet
5. Grans Jeu
6. Prélude grave en plein jeu
7. Fugue pour jouer si l’on veut au lieu de celle qui succède (the composer let the choice to play this fugue or the next)
8. Fugue
9. Duo
10. Récit
11. Cremorne
12. Cornet
13. Basse de trompete
14. Flute
15. Grand jeux
