Description:
Montague George Ewing was born 31 May 1890 in Eastham, London, and died in Friern Barnet, London. He was self-taught in music, and served in two world wars: with The London Scottish Regiment (1915-19) and The Home Guard (1940-44).

As composer he wrote under his own name as well as the pseudonyms of Sherman Myers, Herbert Carrington, Brian Hope and Paul Hoffman.

He is known as a composer of "light music," particularly for his "charming" piano pieces. :-)

"March of the Archers" was published in 1929 by the Theodore Presser Co. This exciting transcription was done by E. A. Barrell, Jr. (1871-1923).

Hopefully this fun and lively piece will be enjoyable to hear, and might prove useful for some. It would make a nice postlude for a church festival.

It's straightforward and predictable, but would make the perfect thing for you to play the next time you are asked to provide music for a tournament of jousting and archery! ;-)

The score is found in an "Album of Marches," published by Presser in 1944, and it is attached below.

A photo of Montague Ewing is also attached.
