Emily Doolittle (b. 1972) — Becoming (2006/22) for organ
Emily Doolittle (b. 1972) is a Canadian-born, Glasgow-based composer. She grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia and was educated at Dalhousie University, the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague, Indiana University and Princeton University. She has been a member of the faculty of Cornish College of the Arts and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Her work has been performed across the UK, Canada, the USA, and Europe and has received commissions from numerous performers and ensembles, including Vancouver Symphony, Orchestre Métropolitain, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, the Albany Symphony, Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal, the Kapten Trio, and the Paragon Ensemble. One of Doolittle’s ongoing research interests is zoomusicology, the study of the relationship between human music and animal songs. She spent five months as composer-in-residence at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology in Seewiesen, Germany, and has participated in a number of collaborative research projects with biologists, resulting in co-authored scientific papers, as well as compositions and musicological writing.
