British composer Geoffrey Atkinson (b. 1943) was born in Surrey and educated at the University of Aberdeen. From 1977 until his retirement in 2018, he was Master of Music at Queen’s Cross Church, Aberdeen, Scotland. He has specialized in editing 18th and early 19th century English organ music, which feature, in nearly 30 volumes, the complete organ works of John Bennett, Maurice Greene, John Travers, Samuel Wesley, William Russell, and Thomas Adams. Atkinson has also written numerous compositions and arrangements, especially in choral and organ genres.
