March on a Theme of Handel Uploaded by: Pep-Organ Composer: Guilmant, Alexandre Organ: Notre Dame de Metz Mutin/Cavaillé-Coll Software: Hauptwerk IV Views: 120
In 1706 Georg Friedrich Händel travelled to Italy at the invitation of Ferdinando de' Medici. Some consider that this period had a major influence on Handel's future compositions. It's safe to say that Handel was inspired by the richness of the Italian baroque of that time, regarding his fine Vesper Psalm settings, his opera etc.
Also in his keyboard works this influence is noticeable. I selected some pieces (which happened all to be in G minor) and created an 'imaginary sonata' with it.
