"These four tientos (inspired by the Iberian baroque) were written between 2013 and 2019. They were
written as four separate pieces and may be played as such or in any combination. If playing them as a group of four, the printed order is suggested.
Tiento de falsas (2018) is dedicated to Wolfgang Lindner. Pieces of this title were characterized by frequent use of dissonance for dramatic and expressive effect. The falsas” of the title thus refers to “false notes” (dissonances) outside of the principal key. The work’s musical trajectory is built from the contrast of dissonance and consonance. In this piece, the traditional Iberian “redoble” figure appears in the principal material.
Tiento (2013) is dedicated to Lois Regestein. This piece draws on a free interplay and changes between metrical groupings (primarily duples and triples).
Tiento mixolítico (2019) was written for Klaus Stehling and is dedicated in memory of Robert Earl
Behrman (1972–2019). The work uses the Mixolydian mode on C and D. It is a tiento of the solo/accompaniment type.
Tiento de batalla (2018) is dedicated to Klaus Stehling. Pieces of this title (“battle piece”) were
characterized by their loose musical imitation of battle sounds by means of repeated and forceful chords/harmonies and by the use of the very powerful reed colors that are typical of Iberian organs."
