Georges Jacob (1877 - 1950) was a Parisian organist. He started his musical education in ecole Niedermeyer; in 1896 he entered the conservatory and was later a pupil of Guilmant. In 1900 he was awarded a first price in organ.
He has left an extensive work for organ, among them two religious suites; this is the first religious suite. It starts with a morning piece, Laudes. Follows a strong movement inspired by the Easter Resurrexit. This is played in a French Classical Plein Jeu registration (coupling Positive, Great and Bombard), which yields a Plein Jeu sound with a classical touch. Inspired by the Plain Chant registration I am using the foundations and a trumpet in the pedal. Follows a calm meditation, a strong piece evoking the majestic athmosphere of an old gothic monastery. The cycle closes with a friendly and calm Bénédiction.
A (free) new edition of both these works was provided by Pierre Gouin.
