“The sun dims,
and clouds
obscure the light.
I feel
a sudden coolness.
And, far away,
the river sings
a lonely song,
Cradled
in winter stillness.”

Brian Avey (b. 1951) was born in Burley, Idaho and grew up in San Diego, where he studied music in secondary school and at San Diego State University. After college, he worked for almost 20 in the software field on projects related to machine translation and linguistics. Switching careers to church music, Avey has worked as an organist/pianist, choir director, and music teacher.
