So for our next Toccata we travel a short distance down the road from Altenbruch to Ludingworth to find another extraordinarily well preserved historic instrument, yet one which sounds distinctly different. This piece is so well known it is hard to bring something new to it, however I hope the antiquity of this organ, with its strong, stark, and uncompromising character complete with mean tone temperament bring an extra intensity to this work. Also a bit unusual is the use of the 'Zimmel' stop, used with the Rohrflote 8' in the Fugue to echo the Brustwerk in the quieter sections - this stop is a high-pitched non-harmonic mixture containing octave, quart and sext. All the same if you like the image of this piece being played on an ancient organ with a few cobwebs in a spooky castle this version may appeal....
