Markus' excellent recording of this very special work by the early Baroque organ master Dietrich Buxtehude gave me no peace and inspired me to approach this work myself.
An important remark in advance. It is certainly impossible to play such a composition live in an appealing way within a short time, so I have the greatest respect for organists who are able to play this great piece the way Markus did. My recording does not even come close to such a live recording. But the desire burns in me to be allowed to interpret such pieces myself, and my tools allow me to do so within a short time. Even though the performance is MIDI, my idea of how this piece should sound is also in it.
I recorded it slowly in 2 voices over several tracks, then adjusted the ratio of the tone durations with my software, added some ornaments and set the global tempo. Here is the result. I play it on the great Eisenbart organ in Friesach, Carinthia (Austria).
The sheet music can be found on the pages of the Petrucci Music Library.
