Description: | Friedrich Wilhelm Marpurg is not new for the regular visitor's of the Concert Hall. Forum member EdoLalready did an excellent series of recodings of Marpurg's chorale preludes. And he provided a pdf with Marpurg's music in the last epidose of his series ( https://www.contrebombarde.com/concerthall/music/42457). Nevertheless, I feel there is room for another publication of Marpurg's music in the public domain, to make the music of Marpurg more widely avaiable.
My source for these scores are digital copies of these original publicationss of Marpurg's chorale preludes, provided by The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek provides. As they are largely notated in older (c-) clefs, they are not easily accesible for players nowadays.
The first chorale prelude in these two collections is based on the melody of "Vom Himmel hoch, da komm ich her". Three days after Christmas it is probably the worst timing to publish it now, nevertheless, it's the first one in the original publications and I want to follow their order. So, here it is anyway, in time for Christmas 2022!
The composition consists of two, independently playable, pieces based on this choral melody. The first is a manualiter piece, with the chorale melody in the soprano voice. The second one features the chorale melody in the pedals.
