American composer Mark Hijleh (b. 1963) was educated at William Jewell College, Ithaca College, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Sheffield. His teachers included Karel Husa, Morris Moshe Cotel, Barney Childs, James Mobberley, and Thomas Benjamin. From 1993–2014, he was Professor of Music (and later also Associate Dean of Academic Affairs) at Houghton College. Moving primarily into a career in academic administration, from 2014–2021 Hijleh was Vice President for Academic Affairs/Dean of Faculty (and later Provost) at The King’s College (New York City). In 2021, he was appointed Vice President for Academic Affairs at Montreat College. Hijleh is the author of several books including “Towards a Global Music Theory,” “Towards a Global Music History,” and “Fundamentals of Global Musicianship.” As a composer, he has written numerous works in various genres: orchestral, chamber, vocal, and choral. |
