Description: | I took today as an opportunity to revise my composition on the Deutschlandlied and play it on the wonderful sample set St. John in Krakow. Today is the bank holidays of the Germans and the peaceful unification of the German people from East and West is commemorated.
In the past, people may have made jokes about it and dubbed the day "Volkstrauertag", but today - even for me as a representative of the older generation - things are taken for granted and one can hardly imagine a divided Germany any more. But it is not so self-evident. Every day we have to fight for our freedom and peace, and unfortunately also see that there are figures on the right edge of the political spectrum who find no small number of supporters, especially in eastern Germany. That is frightening; never again must right-wing violence be allowed to gain strength or play any role at all. We have to fight for this every day.
Music helps and unites peoples. Hence this piece, which is dedicated not only to the Germans but to all peoples of the world. People should understand that war must and will never again start from German soil.
The piece is written in A-flat major, a very calm, rounded and peaceful key. The finale is a hymn movement composed by myself, which harmonically ties in with the prelude and the fugue. Haydn's original from the string quartet would not have fit so well.
In this sense, a peaceful greeting from Germany and much pleasure in listening (and perhaps also commenting;-)
