Sample Set: Strassburg, C. Werner, 1743
Software: GrandOrgue
Genre: Baroque
Description:
The great master took up his new position as Thomaskantor in Leipzig in the early summer of 1723, and the first work he performed was Cantata 75 "Die Elenden sollen essen", a very expansive 2-part work, just like BWV 76. The piece with the number 8 introduced the 2nd part, which was heard after the sermon.
Sinfonia is actually not correct, because it is a very beautiful chorale arrangement to the song "Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan". It is 5-part and in my transcription probably live - on the organ - hardly playable, unless there are 2 organists sitting on the organ bench ;-))
I have tried a number of sample sets with this piece, and the beautiful baroque organ of Cyriach Werner in Strassburg (Austria) fits best. The chorale part is on the positive. I double it to 2 octaves and pull out all the stops. The other voices are on the Hauptwerk and I register them so thinly that the chorale voice remains clearly audible. In the pedal there are 2 16" stops (subbass and contrabass), but they respond a bit sluggishly, which is especially noticeable in the staccato on the last eighth notes of a measure. The tempo "belongs like this". In Baden-Württemberg one would say "Desch g'hört so" ;-)
This is the only way I can enjoy listening to the music, and I wish you the same!
