Estampie

‘Estampie’ is a piece that I wrote last January. I was just having fun with the deeper, lower sounds on my Hauptwerk organ and came up with the theme for this composition. I enjoyed how the tune reminded me of electronic music, of music that is eager to go on and on – until in the morning it’s time to go home. Perhaps this piece is a short summary of such a dance night, as the title ‘Estampie’ also indicates. The word ‘Estampie’ is related to ‘stamping’ or ‘stomping’, and is an old dance form – you will understand why I chose this title when you hear the piece.

It was great fun to write this quasi-kitsch piece. I hope you have as much fun listening to it!
