Fulvio Caldini (b. 1959) — Pastorale del ritorno (Marginalia No. 112) (2021) for organ
Italian composer Fulvio Caldini (b. 1959) was born in Arezzo and was educated at the “Luigi Cherubini” Conservatory (Florence, Italy) and King Alfred’s College (Winchester, England). His teachers included Giorgio Sacchetti (piano), Franco Cioci (harmony/counterpoint), Franco Rossi (chamber music), Anna Maria Pernafelli (harpsichord), and Fausto D’Antimi (organ). Since the early 1980s, Calvini has composed many works in various forms, particularly focusing on music for wind-blown instruments (recorders, double reeds, organ, etc.). In 2008, the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet released a complete CD devoted to his works for recorder ensemble. Much of Caldini’s music displays minimalist influences often combined with a contrapuntal modality that alludes to pre-Renaissance music. Other works show other connections to pre-baroque music and traditional Italian styles (such as the pastorale). Caldini has taught chamber music at the “Luigi Cherubini” Conservatory.
