Van Oeckelen organ Oude Pekela

Software: | Hauptwerk VI |
Genre: | Romantic |
Description: | While looking to see if I could find some free scores by C S Lang I came across this prolific composer of Leider and music for piano. These two pieces did not have any pianistic flourishes and looked to be playable straight off on the organ. I find the Van Oeckelen organ (with reverb) is perfect for them.
Josephine Caroline Lang (14 March 1815 – 2 December 1880) was born in Munich, Germany into a talented, artistic family. Her maternal grandmother and her three maternal aunts were singers. She began her musical studies with her mother, Regina Hitzelberger (1788-1827), a singer and teacher, and her father, violinist Theobald Lang (1783-1839). In 1830, she studied theory with Felix Mendelssohn. Around 1835, Lang became fascinated with the music of Robert Schumann; he subsequently praised her music in an 1837 review and published one of her songs in a supplement to his journal in 1838.
With over 100 songs published and around 300 composed throughout her lifetime, Lang established herself as one of the most prolific female composers of the Romantic period.
The 1830s marked a period of great creative success for Lang, establishing her amongst Europe’s most influential artistic circles. Her original compositions continued to garner the admiration of some of Germany’s most famous musical figures, including Robert Schumann, Clara Schumann, and Ferdinand Hiller, the latter two of whom provided support in publishing her later work.
In addition to releasing over 40 collections of songs and piano music, Lang sang professionally at the Munich court and was a prized music teacher, counting among her students notable members of German royalty. |
