Liebster Jesu, wir sind hier, BWV 731

Yesterday I listenened in the car to Bach's Johannes-Passion. After it was finished Spotify randomly selected another piece. So after the closing chorale of the 'Johannes', I suddenly heard the beautiful chorale prelude 'Liebster Jesu, wir sind hier'. So I had to play (& record) it.

It isn't a hymn for Lent or Passiontide, but knowing the text it struck me how fitting it is for this Good Friday. As an answer to Jesus' suffering:

Liebster Jesu, wir sind hier,
dich und dein Wort anzuhören;
lenke Sinnen und Begier
hin zu deinem Himmelslehren,
daß die Herzen von der Erden
ganz zu dir gezogen werden.

English translation:
Blessed Jesus, at your word
we are gathered all to hear you.
Let our hearts and souls be stirred
now to seek and love and fear you.
By your gospel pure and holy,
teach us, Lord, to love you solely.
