When I was composing this organ piece, I was only working with the melody of Genevan Psalm 107 and did not really mind the text. After the piece was finished, I read the text of the psalm (in different (metrical) translations) and it struck me that the music and the text were interacting in interesting ways. The refrains had roughly the same position in the structure, and certain atmospheres and emotions from the text echoed in the music, although clear word-painting is absent. Rather, the music and text are different layers, sometimes overlapping, sometimes contradicting each other. I hope the YouTube video gives you such an experience.
