Composer: Thalben-Ball, George
Sample Producer: Lavender Audio
Sample Set: Hereford Cathedral Willis Organ
Software: Hauptwerk IV
Genre: Contemporary
Description:
I hadn't meant to record this, but I was pottering through a book of GTB's variations on hymn tunes and found this one.
Wolvercote is what I think of as a typical big, bold, English cathedral hymn tune. W H Ferguson, who wrote it, was a teacher (or school master, as he would have said) and later headmaster in various public (i.e private (don't you just love English?!)) schools. He was ordained and eventually became precentor at Salisbury Cathedral. He also co-edited The Public School Hymn Book. The tune is associated with the hymn, O Jesus, I have promised.
