One of the challenging, yet rewarding, aspects of creating recordings with Hauptwerk sample sets is finding the right organ for the job.
In this case, I was looking for an instrument with sumptuous strings and solo stops, but also one with beautiful articulate choruses. The Hereford Cathedral Father Willis was painstakingly captured close enough to the pipes to give clarity, but also in a manner that would showcase the ambience of that wonderful room.
From the more serious natured “Chaconne,” to the warm inviting “Sarabande,” to the playful “Final,” Gerald Near’s “Suite” offers a pleasing compositional palette for the organ enthusiast.
