Kjell Mørk Karlsen (b. 1947) — Preambulum 9, op. 203 (2020) for organ
Norwegian composer Kjell Mørk Karlsen (b. 1947) was born in Oslo and began his education with his father, composer and organist Rolf Karlsen. He was educated at the Oslo Music Conservatory and later studied composition with Joonas Kokkonen. A great interest in early music led to his founding in 1969 of Pro Musica Antiqua Oslo, which he led until 1974. Karlsen maintained positions as a church organist until retirement in 2011 from Asker Church. Karlsen’s voluminous output as a composer includes orchestral symphonies (12), oratorios (15), string quartets (5), miscellaneous chamber and vocal music, and a very large quantity of music for organ and choir. One of his largest projects is the cycle “Laudate Dominum,” a collection of 100 choral motets for every Sunday of the church year.
