Rebecca Groom te Velde (b. 1956) — Variations on “Balm in Gilead” (2005) for organ
American composer and church musician Rebecca Groom te Velde (b. 1956) was educated at Seattle Pacific University and the University of Western Ontario. Her teachers include Lester H. Groom, Hugh McLean, and Jack Behrens. In 1980–81, she received a grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to study with Michael Schneider at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, Germany. In 1991, she became organist of First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She served as co-editor for the Oxford Hymn Settings for Organists series from Oxford University Press. Te Velde is a third-generation professional organist, following both her parents and her grandfather, and succeeded by her son.
