Jean-René Quignard (1887-1978) studied organ and composition and was a student of Louis Vierne at the Schola Cantorum de Paris , among others . He became Maitre de Chapelle and organist at the Église Notre-Dame in Versailles . Later he became director of the Conservatoire de Saint-Brieuc and returned to the Breton birthplace. As a composer he wrote a large amount of church music (masses, cantatas and sacred music) works for choir and organ.
"Improvisata" is based upon the "Noël Bourdelais". It consists of the theme, and three brief variations.
It's quite stylish and attractive in my opinion. :-)
