Gerrit Stulp (1935-2019) was a Dutch organist, conductor and composer. Before his time on the conservatory Stulp received his education from George Stam and Piet Post. On the Groningen conservatory he took classes with Wim van Beek and on the The Hague conservatory with Nico van den Hooven. He mainly composed choral works and organ works.
This piece is an aria on the advent hymn 'Op U, mijn Heiland, blijf ik hopen', also known as 'O du mein Trost und süsses Hoffen'. Stulp wrote that it is meant to play cantabile.
It comes from the bundle Noord-Nederlands Orgelboekje (free translation: organ booklet from the North Netherlands). In this bundle you can find some nice choral preludes, mostly in a moderate modern style.
