Description: | Wolfgang Lindner (b. 1956) — Lamento: Vienna, 2-11-20 (2020) for organ
(written in memory of the November 2, 2020 attacks in Vienna, Austria)
German composer and organist Wolfgang Lindner (b. 1956) was born in Duisburg and studied in Munich, Essen, Düsseldorf, France, and Belgium. From 1982 to 1988 he served at St. Johann Church in Duisburg-Homberg and in 1989 was appointed to St. Magnus Church in Everswinkel. In 2006 he retired from active duty church work to work as a freelance musician. He has been active as a composer and editor for publishers in Germany and the USA. In addition to Lindner’s original compositions, he has also edited several collections of organ music from past centuries. In his original compositions, Lindner works in a style that combines French and German influences and is frequently based on Gregorian chant melodies. He is a gifted miniaturist; all of his collections gather together short pieces that display a tremendous sense of balance and economy.
