Philip Hammond (b. 1951) is an Irish composer, teacher, writer and broadcaster. He has written extensively for piano, choir, and other instruments. His Sonata for Organ, composed in 1983 was premiered at the Kilkenny Arts Festival. He says, "I am interested in writing music which is immediately comprehensible but which rewards closer study."
I previously recorded just the toccata, the spritely final movement. Here now with the Fanfare and Cantus to complete the Sonata! Thanks to all those who encouraged me
I think the sonata works very well in the reverberant accoustic of the virtual Laurenskerk, recorded on Hauptwerk V.
