Description: | Ernest Alfred Dicks (1865-1948) was an organist in Cheltenham, and also to the Royal Masonic Lodge.
These works can all be found in Book 5 of the "Short and Easy Pieces." These are all fine pieces, more long-forgotten musical gems. They will require skill and finesse to make them sound well and polished, so, the word "easy" should not be taken too literally. :-)
This collection was published by Bayley & Ferguson in 1932, although the style is much earlier.
These three pieces, and the one that I'll upload tomorrow, "Peaceful Night" go together to make one complete day in terms of 24 hours. They would make a wonderful recital group, if you are so inclined.
"Noon-Tide" is found on page 38. It is by far the most "expansive" of these three, and probably the most "beautiful" as observance of the composer's marks can make all the difference.
The main theme reminds me of the old Ben E. King song, "Stand by me" - "When the night is come, and the land is dark, etc."
If you know the song, you'll hear the reference to be sure. :-)
The score is attached below, and, FINALLY, an autographed PHOTO of Earnest A. Dicks is also attached!
Tomorrow, "Peaceful Night" will bring our musical day to a conclusion. |
