Frederick William Wadeley (also spelled Wadely) OBE FRCO (1882 - 1970) was born in Kidderminster in 1882, and was trained at the Royal College of Music and was then at Selwyn College, Cambridge.
He was organ scholar at Selwyn College, Cambridge (1900 – 1903), organist of St. Andrew’s Church, Uxbridge (1903-1904),
organist of Malvern Priory (1904 - 1910) and finally organist of Carlisle Cathedral (1910 - 1960).
"Postlude in A Major" is the first of the "Three Short and Easy Postludes, Set Two" published by Novello in 1922.
It is rugged, somewhat angular, with a sense of stride and purpose about it. The term "easy" is misleading. It's by no means a "difficult" piece, but it's far less simple than many publications imply when they use the word simply.
I could not help but feel that there feelings of composers like Geoffrey Shaw and Ralph Vaughan Williams contained in this, but others may hear it and not see the connection.
"Postlude in G Minor," the 2nd in the set can be found here:
