Another one of the seven choral preludes by J.N. Hanff. I really was in doubt how to play this piece, concerning tempo and registration.
What strikes me that there are chorale preludes on this chorale, where the character is bold and forte (for example by JSB). On the other hand there are settings where the pleading tone is highlighted by a slow tempo and soft registration.
Therefore I've uploaded two versions of this piece:
-
0:00 - Erfurt
The first version is recorded on the Stertzing-organ in Erfurt. The tempo is moderate, the registration is mezzoforte. I think the point is that it is a loud cry to heaven about the misery on earth. So I used a combination with the Trombetta 8'
-
2:50 - Azzio
The second version is recorded on the Mascioni-organ in Azzio. The tempo is slower, the registration soft and combined with the tremulant for the whole organ. Well, this would be the soft cry.
I'm curious which version you prefer!
Chorale text:
Ach Gott, vom Himmel sieh' darein
Und lass' dich des erbarmen,
Wie wenig sind der Heil'gen dein,
Verlassen sind wir Armen:
Dein Wort man lässt nicht haben wahr,
Der Glaub' ist auch verloschen gar
Bei allen Menschenkindern.
