Description: | Eurydice V. Osterman (b. 1950) — Meditation (1971) for organ
American composer Eurydice V. Osterman (b. 1950) was born in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Darlington, South Carolina, and Indianapolis, Indiana. She was educated at Andrews University (B.Mus. and M.Mus.) and the University of Alabama (Ph.D.). After positions at Mount Vernon Academy (Ohio) and Berean SDA Church School (Baton Rouge), Osterman accepted a position at Oakwood University in 1978 as the primary theory teacher and director of the Oakwood College Choir. She directed the choir until 1992. From 1994–96, she directed Oakwood’s select choral ensemble, the Aeolians, and served as chair of the music department. In 2009, Osterman became chair of the music department at Northern Caribbean University (Jamaica) and saw the department through its curriculum design and accreditation process. Osterman retired from Oakwood University in 2016. In addition to her academic activites and choral direction, Osterman has written a large number of musical compositions in various genres and is the author of several books about sacred music. She has also been active on the denominational music and hymnal committees for the SDA denomination; she also served as a church organist throughout her career and was dean of the Huntsville Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
