Bjarne Sløgedal (1927–2014) — Fantasy on the Name of Bach (1982) for organ
Norwegian composer and church musician Bjarne Sløgedal (1927–2014) was educated at the music conservatory in Oslo where he studied with Arild Sandvold, Øivin Fjeldstad, and Bjarne Brustad. Upon graduation, he studied for a year at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. From 1951 to 1996, Sløgedal was the cathedral organist in Kristiansand where he also directed the motet choir. He founded the De internasjonale kirkefestspill (International Church Festival Games) in 1971. Sløgedal’s “Variations on a Norwegian Folk Tune” is particularly well-known and has been recorded many times.
